Grace Is Easier to Receive Than It Is to Give

“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”
Ephesians 4:32 (KJV)
Good morning, friend.
I’m so glad you stopped by this morning. Grab your coffee, get comfortable, and spend a few quiet minutes with me before the busyness of the day begins.

Yesterday we talked about giving ourselves grace. That conversation stayed with me throughout the day, and as I reflected on it, another thought kept coming to mind. Why is it so much easier to accept God’s forgiveness than it is to extend that same forgiveness to someone else?
If I’m being honest, I think that’s something most of us struggle with. Someone says something that hurts us, disappoints us, or treats us unfairly. Even if we never mention it again, we replay the conversation in our minds. We think about what we wish we had said or what we wish had happened differently. Before long, we’ve allowed one difficult moment to steal our peace.
The amazing thing is that God doesn’t treat me that way. He knows every mistake I’ve ever made. He knows every time I’ve fallen short, every wrong decision, every impatient word, and every missed opportunity. Yet when I come to Him with a humble heart, He forgives me completely. He doesn’t keep reminding me of yesterday’s failures or hold them over my head.
When I stop and think about that, it makes me ask a hard question. If God can forgive me so freely, why do I struggle to forgive others?
Now, forgiveness doesn’t mean pretending something didn’t hurt, and it certainly doesn’t mean that healthy boundaries aren’t important. Sometimes they are. But I’ve learned that holding on to hurt usually hurts me far more than it hurts the other person. It steals my joy, my focus, and the peace that God wants me to have.
Life is simply too short to spend it carrying things that God never intended me to carry. There are children who need encouragement. Families who need hope. Keepsakes waiting to be created. Friends who need a listening ear. There is too much good that God still has for me to allow bitterness to take up space in my heart.
As I begin this Tuesday, I’m asking God to help me let go of the little things that don’t deserve to stay with me. Not because someone else has earned my forgiveness, but because I want to protect the peace that God has given me.
I’d love to hear from you this morning. Has someone ever shown you unexpected grace when you needed it the most? I can’t wait to read your stories.
I hope you have a beautiful Tuesday.
❤️ Mandy
