Good morning, friends!
Grab your coffee and come sit with me for a little while. ☕ My calendar is pretty full this week, but as I sat thinking about everything that’s coming, I realized my heart might be even fuller. There are so many different things happening in our family right now. Some I’m excited about, some make this mama a little emotional, and some have me wondering what comes next.
Thursday, Garrett starts 7th grade. I’m not crying. 😢 Well, maybe just a little. Friday, Matt
and I celebrate 27 years of marriage, and I really don’t know how we got here so quickly. It seems like yesterday we were just starting our life together, and now we’re watching one child head off to middle school and getting ready to send the other one back to college. Sunday is Homecoming at church, something I’m really looking forward to because I get to see Christian brothers and sisters I don’t see nearly enough. Then there’s Wednesday and my rheumatology appointment. My MRI results weren’t great, I haven’t heard from the doctor yet, and I’m still waiting to find out what all of that means.
That’s a lot of different seasons packed into one week. Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:” Sometimes we think of seasons as these long periods of our lives, but I’m realizing that we can be living in several of them at once. I can be celebrating 27 years of marriage while feeling sad that my children are growing up. I can be excited about Homecoming while worrying about a doctor’s appointment. I can be thankful for where God has brought me while still wondering where He’s taking me next.
Twenty-seven years ago, I couldn’t see any of this. I knew I wanted to be married and have two children. I knew I wanted a good marriage with a Godly man, and I knew that someday I wanted to get back into church and serve the Lord the way I needed to. I had a picture in my mind of what I hoped my life might look like, but I couldn’t see the road that would get me there. God could, though. He knew Matt. He knew Clayton. He knew Garrett. He knew every mountain and valley we would walk through to get to this exact Monday morning.
That gives me a lot of comfort when I think about the things I can’t see today. I don’t know what the rheumatologist will say Wednesday. I don’t know what this school year will look like for Garrett or what another year of college will bring for Clayton. I certainly don’t know what the next 27 years will hold for Matt and me. What I do know is that when I look behind me, I can see God’s hand over and over again, and if He was faithful then, I can trust Him with what I can’t see now.
Maybe that’s something you need to remember this morning too. We spend so much time looking ahead that sometimes we miss what God is doing right where we are. Some of the things surrounding me today are things I once prayed for, and I don’t want to be so busy worrying about tomorrow that I forget to thank Him for today. God was there then, He’s here now, and He’s already in what’s next.
As you drink your coffee this morning, think about the season you’re in right now. Is it one you’re enjoying, one you’re struggling through, or maybe, like mine, a little bit of both? ❤️
Until Tomorrow…
♥️Mandy
