Good morning, friends. ☕❤️

I took yesterday off from our conversation because the weekend just got busy. We went to church, then went over to my mom’s, and I spent a good part of the day doing something I really enjoy: canning. I got quite a few things put away, including pasta sauce, tomatoes, and what we’re calling peach molasses. I was trying to make the peaches a little more friendly to my blood sugar, so I used coconut palm sugar instead of regular sugar. I’m not sure I completely accomplished what I was going for because it took away some of the peach flavor and made it taste much more like molasses, but it’s actually pretty good. It’s definitely different, and we’ll see how it turns out.

Today is another busy day. We’re going to spend some time with family for Labor Day, and I’m looking forward to seeing my dad and enjoying some time together. I’m also starting my new medication today, so I’m curious to see how that goes. I’ve taken a similar medication before and had success with it, but it also made me pretty sick, so I’m hoping this experience will be a little different. I’m also hoping this headache I’ve had since I woke up decides to go away because I have a few things I’d like to get done this morning.

There is always something on the list, isn’t there?

But through all of the ordinary things happening this weekend, one thought from our services has continued to stay with me. We talked about how we have to push further and work harder to reach those who are lost and help them find salvation. As I’ve thought about that, I’ve realized that it isn’t something that should only happen when we’re at church. Serving God can’t be something we do only when it’s convenient or when we’re gathered together with other believers. It has to become part of our everyday lives.

That’s something I’m having to be honest about with myself.

It’s easy to make God part of Sunday. We go to church, hear the Word, worship, fellowship with other people, and leave feeling encouraged. But then Monday comes, and the world starts moving again. Work gets busy, the kids need something, the house needs cleaning, there are errands to run, messages to answer, meals to prepare, and a hundred other things competing for our attention. Before we know it, we’ve filled our entire day and haven’t left much room for God.

And I’m guilty of it.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about making more room for God in my everyday life. I’ve even been using this blog as a way to talk through it and remind myself of what I need to be doing. But sometimes talking about something is much easier than actually doing it. I can write about putting God first and then pick up my phone instead of my Bible. I can talk about needing to spend more time with Him and then allow everything else to consume my day. I can say that God is the most important part of my life, but if I’m not careful, my actions don’t always reflect what I say.

That’s something I’m having to confront in myself.

God can’t simply be something I fit into whatever time is left at the end of my day. If I truly believe that everything I have comes from Him, then I need to be intentional about making Him part of my everyday life. That doesn’t mean I stop taking care of my family, working, running my business, cleaning my house, or enjoying the things God has given me. It means I need to remember who I’m doing all of it for and make sure that the world doesn’t take up every available space in my heart and mind.

I think about yesterday at my mom’s house, working on those peaches and tomatoes. That’s just an ordinary part of my life, but God is still there. He’s there when I’m sitting around the table with my family. He’s there when I’m making shirts. He’s there when I’m working. He’s there when I’m tired and when I’m frustrated. He’s there in the things that feel important and in the things that seem completely ordinary.

The challenge for me is remembering Him in all of it.

I don’t say any of this as someone who has figured it out. I’m saying it because I’m realizing how much I still need to work on it myself. I don’t want this blog to become a place where I talk about faith without actually allowing those conversations to change the way I live. If I’m going to sit here every morning and talk about putting God first, then I need to be willing to look at my own life and ask whether I’m actually doing it.

Maybe that’s one of the reasons these conversations have become so important to me. They force me to slow down and think about what I’m doing, what I’m learning, and where God fits into all of it. But I don’t want these thoughts to simply become words on a screen. I want them to make a difference in me.

I’m learning that serving God is a day-to-day decision. We don’t just serve Him on Sunday, Wednesday, or Saturday night. We don’t wait until life slows down or until we have more time. We have to find ways to keep Him at the center while we’re living the ordinary parts of our lives, because those ordinary parts are where most of our lives actually happen.

So today, as I spend time with my family, work through this headache, start a new chapter with my health, and try to get a few things accomplished around the house, I’m going to try to be more intentional about where my heart and my mind are focused. I know I’m not going to get it perfect, but I also know that recognizing where I need to grow is a good place to start.

Maybe you’re in the same place.

Maybe you’ve been so busy taking care of everything else that you’ve realized you’ve been giving God whatever time happens to be left over. Maybe you’ve been talking about wanting a closer relationship with Him, but haven’t been making room for it in your everyday life.

If that’s you, you’re not alone. I’m right there with you.

So as you drink your coffee this morning, I want you to think about this with me: Are you making God part of your everyday life, or are you sometimes waiting until it’s convenient to give Him your attention?

I’m asking myself that same question today.

Until tomorrow…

Keep your coffee warm, your Bible close, and your eyes open for the blessings God places in your path today. I’ll meet you back here tomorrow—with another cup of coffee and another conversation.
